Selective Instructions
Overview
Selective Instructions are distinct from the general instructions defined at the assistant level. While general instructions establish the assistant’s overall behavior and core functionality, Selective Instructions allow you to customize and fine-tune the assistant’s focus for specific situations or tasks enforcing a certain context (not) to be taken into consideration.
These instructions can be toggled on or off, either during the assistant’s initial setup or dynamically during interactions, enabling users to sharpen or broaden the assistant’s contextual understanding as needed.
How to Find and/or Set Up Selective Instructions
Step 1: Create New Selective Instructions
- Go to the Settings Tab and navigate to the Selective Instructions section.
- Select the assistant these instructions will be associated with (data source access is already set at the assistant level).
- Provide the instruction details:
- Title: A short, descriptive name for the instruction.
- Description: Additional context for the instruction, explaining its purpose and application.
Step 2: Add Instruction Details
- Define the type of instruction:
- Text: For free-form guidelines or explanations.
- Data Sources: For structured information like files, databases, or predefined resources.
- Enter the content of the instruction in the provided field. Use formatting tools to organize and clarify the information.
Use selective instructions
Selective instructions can be selected during the assistant’s initial setup dynamically enforcing context awareness not relying on the assistants probabilistic approach to include them as context. Simply select them in the assistant configuration.
Alternatively, during interactions, open selective instructions sidebar via the lightbulb icon and select or deselect specific items.
